The Pingyao Ancient City (平遥古城) is China's best-preserved Ming Dynasty walled city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The entire city is essentially a living museum — 2.25 sqkm of Ming and Qing Dynasty architecture with 300+ historic sites, temples, guild halls, and the original Rishengchang (日升昌) bank that issued China's first bank notes in 1823.
