One of Central Asia's largest and most famous markets, held every Sunday. Thousands of vendors selling livestock, carpets, spices, knives, and everything in between. The livestock section starts at dawn.
Id Kah Mosque (艾提尕尔清真寺)
The largest mosque in China, dating from 1442, able to hold 20,000 worshippers. The yellow-tiled façade and minarets are the icon of Kashgar. Open to non-Muslim visitors outside prayer times.
Kashgar Old City (喀什老城)
A maze of narrow mud-brick lanes, two-story Uyghur courtyard homes, and small workshops — one of the best-preserved traditional Islamic city centres in Central Asia. Undergoing sensitive restoration since 2010.
Apak Khoja Mausoleum (阿帕克霍加墓)
Also called the Fragrant Concubine Tomb. The holiest Muslim site in Xinjiang, a 17th-century tiled mausoleum complex 5km northeast of the old city.
Karakul Lake (喀拉库勒湖)
A high-altitude glacial lake at 3,600m on the Karakoram Highway, with Muztagh Ata (7,546m) and Kongur Tagh (7,649m) reflected in its waters. A 4-hour drive from Kashgar.
Karakoram Highway (KKH)
