Yes for the highlights. You see Forbidden City, Great Wall, Terracotta Army, and the city wall. For deeper exploration of either city, add 1-2 days each.

G-class HSR from Beijing West to Xi'an North: 4.5 hours, ¥623 second class / ¥1,000+ first class. Runs every 30-60 minutes. Book via Trip.com or 12306.cn. Book 1-2 weeks ahead in peak season.
When is the Terracotta Army least crowded?
Weekday mornings, arriving at 8:30 AM opening. Spring and autumn for weather. Avoid Chinese holidays (Golden Week in October, Spring Festival in January/February).
Should I do Beijing or Xi'an first?
Either works. Beijing first lets you arrive jet-lagged and ease in. Xi'an first if you want the slower-paced city as your introduction. The HSR works in both directions.
