At international hotels, high-end malls, and Trip.com yes. At most restaurants, taxis, and street vendors no. Link your card to Alipay for full coverage.
Should I bring my credit card or just use Alipay?
Both. Use the credit card directly for pre-trip hotel/flight bookings and international chains. Link it to Alipay for daily in-China spending — same card, much wider acceptance.
Are there foreign transaction fees on Alipay?
No — when you link a foreign Visa/Mastercard via Alipay's Tour Card, there are no additional Alipay fees. Your card's standard FX rate applies.
Can I use AmEx in China?
At international hotels yes, but acceptance is narrower than Visa/Mastercard. Linking AmEx to Alipay works and gives you universal coverage.
