Arxan National Forest Park on the Mongolian border is a volcanic landscape of crater lakes (Tianchi), lava fields, hot springs and dense birch-larch forest — plus China's smallest village-adjacent ski scene. The park's lakes mirror the sky at altitude and the hot springs gave the town its spa name.

The park's highlights are the twin Tianchi crater lakes (one perfectly round, one kidney-shaped), the Dujuan Lake set in lava, the Hamaba lava landforms and the 三潭峡 gorge where the Halha River cuts through volcanic rock. Boardwalks link the main sights and park buses run the internal roads.
Arxan town outside the park grew around mineral hot springs — bathing is the traditional activity, and winter transforms the area into a snow-training and photography destination at −30°C.
Fly to Arxan Yiershi airport or take the train from Ulanhot/Baihe; the park entrance is about 1 hour by road from town, with park buses inside.
June-September for green season and hiking; mid-September for autumn birch color; December-February for extreme snow scenery.
