Two full days covers the main highlights: Xiangshan Summit, Revolutionary Memorial, and Cliffside Caves. Three days allows a full day at the Taihang Mountain areas. A weekend from Taiyuan (2h by HSR) or Zhengzhou (2h by HSR) is very doable.
What is the best time to visit Xiangshan?
Early morning (07:00-10:00) for the best chance of clear summit views. The summit is often in cloud in the afternoon, particularly in summer and autumn. Autumn (October) also offers beautiful autumn foliage in the surrounding Taihang Mountains.
