Methodology

Schedules and fares are spot-checked monthly against 12306.cn (the official China Railway booking portal) and cross-referenced with Wikipedia’s Beijing–Shanghai HSR article. We record second-class fares only — first-class, business-class, and standing-class tickets each carry their own price band and are out of scope for the scaffold. Journey times are recorded as departure-to-arrival duration in minutes; dwell-time at intermediate stops is included as published by 12306.
