Land at Bangda Airport, about 4,334 m above sea level, and drive roughly 2 hours down to the city at about 3,200 m. Rest first, then visit Jampa Ling, founded in 1437; the halls usually open 8:00-17:00. Walk clockwise and ask before photographing inside.

Day 2

Karuo Site & City Museum

Drive 12 km southeast to the Karuo site, a Neolithic village occupied some 4,000 years ago and discovered in 1977, then the city museum for the region's archaeology. Drink extra water and keep the pace gentle at this altitude.

Bangda Grassland & Departure

The airport road climbs onto the Bangda grassland at about 4,300 m, a wide grazing plain with yak herds. Allow 2 hours to the terminal, move slowly on the high sections and skip alcohol on flight days.
