The temple quarter dates to the Tang 630s and carries the 153.79-metre Tianning Pagoda finished in 2007; Hongmei Park next door keeps the 48-metre Wenbi Pagoda, first raised in the Southern Dynasties 480s, and Qingguo Lane south of the canal is where Zhou Youguang, born here in 1906, grew up.

Liyang — Tianmu Lake & departure

About 80 km south (a 1.5-hour drive or a rail change at Liyang), the lake formed by a late-1950s reservoir is the place for a boat loop and a casserole fish-head lunch before the train back to Changzhou.
