Bashan Grand Canyon, Full Day

Two hours northeast to Xuanhan for the 2018-opened gorge, its walkways and Tujia villages; the evening stage show runs in season. Overnight Xuanhan.

Luojiaba Site & Museum

Layers from the late Neolithic through the Han, dug since 1999; the 2023 site museum was the country's first devoted to Ba culture. Back to Dazhou at night.

Shenjian Garden & City Hills

The memorial park around the home of Zhang Aiping (1910-2000), Dazhou-born and defence minister from 1982, then the city-view paths of Phoenix Hill.

Congren Valley, Land of the Cong

South to Quxian for the forested slopes and caves named for the ancient Cong people; Dazhu fermented rice makes the ride home sweeter.

North to Batai Mountain

Two hours north to Wanyuan for the 8 stacked terraces of Batai Mountain — sunrise cloud sea if you stay on top. Overnight Wanyuan.

Wanyuan Museum & Return

The museum records the summer-1934 battle fought around Wanyuan in plain documentary style; the ride back to Dazhou leaves time for a farewell dinner.
