14-day Gankou itinerary at a glance
Use our full Gankou travel guide as the base and adapt it to 14 days. Keep the city's three signature attractions as the backbone; fill the rest with neighborhood walks, food markets, and an easy day trip.
Arrival & the Old Street
Gankou was listed among Taizhou's ten market towns in the Wanli-era (1573-1620) gazetteer of 1604, and its old street quarter in today's Jiangyan District still keeps Ming-Qing houses behind some 600 years of settlement. A small place without ticketed sights — walk the lanes slowly, then the evening food market.

Canal Country & Market Morning
The Lixiahe lowland around town is a lattice of canals, levees and rice-and-crab fields; a morning at the township market comes first, then levee paths on foot or by hired bike. It is working farm country, not a park — bring water and let the day stay loose.

Qintong & Qinhu Day
An honest same-district day — Qintong's water-town lanes and the Qinhu wetland park sit within Jiangyan District, a short ride from Gankou. Boardwalks, boat lanes and the town's crab-forward Qinhu table, the local so-called eight fresh dishes; the Qingming-next-day boat festival packs the town if your dates land near it.

Taizhou City Day
The prefecture city sits under 40 km away by road. The Fengcheng river old moat loops the centre, the Mei Garden honours the Peking-opera master Mei Lanfang (1894-1961), whose family came from Taizhou, and the old town lanes carry lunch. Back to Gankou by evening.

Village Slow Day
A deliberate pause — a second market morning, laundry, an afternoon on the levee with a book, and an early night before the three city runs.
- gankou town markets
Yangzhou Day
An honest cross-city day — Yangzhou lies about an hour and a half north by road. The Ge Garden of 1818, the Slender West Lake belt and the old town alleys fill a day; return with the evening traffic.

Nantong Day
An honest cross-city day, about two hours east by road. Nantong grew into its modern shape under the industrialist Zhang Jian (1853-1926), whose Nantong Museum of 1905 was China's first museum founded by a Chinese; the Hao river moat rings the old centre. Back by evening.

Rest & Second Market
The mid-trip pause — bazaar lanes, notes on what the second week should revisit, and tickets checked for the remaining runs.

Second Canal Walk
The far side of the lowland this time — a different grid of dikes and villages, the same slow rhythm. Pack lunch from the morning market and let the fields set the schedule.

Village Tables Day
An unhurried food day — the market at opening, a village kitchen lunch arranged through your guesthouse if one is nearby, and crab season on the table between late summer and autumn.

Second Qintong Run
Back to Qintong for what day 3 skipped — the temple lanes, the wetland's bird hides in the quieter hours, and one more Qinhu table lunch. From November to March the wetland also holds its wintering waterbirds.

Second Taizhou Run
The parts of the prefecture city left for later — the museum quarter and the riverside parks along the Fengcheng loop, plus the old town's evening snack streets.

A final unhurried day in the place you have come to know — the lanes in morning light, one last levee walk at dusk, snacks packed for the road.
