Jintian and the Tropic of Cancer

The uprising that founded the Taiping movement began at Jintian village on 11 January 1851 — the site and its museum present the history plainly. The city also sits on the Tropic of Cancer — at the marker park, latitude about 23°26'N, the pole casts no shadow at summer-solstice noon.
