Su Shi wrote both Red Cliff rhapsodies here during his 1080-1084 exile; the riverside park costs about 40 yuan. Loop Yiai Lake by rented bike in the evening — the full circuit is around 5 km.

Tiantangzhai — Dabie Main Peak

Some 120 km and a 2.5-hour drive from Huangzhou; the Luotian-side summit reads 1,729.13 meters. Ride the cable car up, walk the ridge boardwalks, and overnight in the village below.

Bodaofeng Ridge & Down to Yingshan

The knife-edge ridge tops out near 1,408 meters, an hour's drive from Tiantangzhai. Descend through the fir forests toward Yingshan county and soak in the county-town hot springs.

Hong'an Memorial Park

The park keeps the record of the November 13, 1927 Huangma Uprising and the Hubei-Henan-Anhui base area — a factual visit, two hours or so, photo ID required in the halls.

Qizhou — Li Shizhen & Departure

In Qichun's riverside town of Qizhou, the memorial honors Li Shizhen (1518-1593), who spent 27 years compiling the Bencao Gangmu. Return east for the HSR at Huanggang East or via Wuhan.
