A county since 109 BC; in 1938 the Southwest Associated University's arts and law faculties taught a term here, Zhu Ziqing and Wen Yiduo among the faculty. The lake is the setting of the crossing-the-bridge noodle story.

Bisezhai — Metre-Gauge History Day

The 1909 station on the Yunnan-Vietnam railway, complete in 1910 at 855 km with 465 km in Yunnan; the private 600-mm Gejiu line transshipped here from 1915 and reached Shiping in 1936. Warehouses, water tower, rails of two gauges.

Pomegranate Country & Nisu Town

Mengzi farms about 130,000 mu of sweet pomegranate, harvested August-September; orchard lanes and tasting stands fill the morning. The Nisu Yi cultural village by Changqiaohai lake closes the day.

Gejiu — Tin Capital Side Day

An hour west into neighboring Gejiu, the prefecture's other city — tin mining here runs back over 2,000 years, and Jinhu lake sits in the middle of town. Mine-history exhibits, lakeside lunch, return by evening.

State Museum, Old Customs & Departure

The prefecture museum sketches Honghe's ethnic and rail history — the seat moved to Mengzi in 2003 — and the 1889 customs compound closes the old-town loop. Noodles, then the train south or north.
