Longsha Park has been the city's green parlour since 1897; a short walk on, the rebuilt general's mansion recalls 1699-1954, when Qiqihar administered Heilongjiang from here.

Zhalong — Cranes over the Reeds

The reserve, set up in 1979 and raised to national rank in 1987, covers about 2,100 sq km of marsh 26 km southeast of downtown. Six of the world's fifteen crane species pass through; captive-bred red-crowned cranes, 300-odd birds, fly the mid-morning release sessions.
