Arrival & Chongfu Temple

Inside the old city, the temple founded in 665 keeps its great Amitabha Hall of 1143 — among the largest Jin-dynasty halls standing — with its original statues, murals and lattice windows; an unhurried loop of the old quarter follows.

Yingxian — The Wooden Pagoda

About 75 km east by road, the pagoda raised in 1056 still stands 67.31 metres on 54 kinds of bracket joints and no nails, survivor of earthquakes and the 1974-found sutras inside its Buddha; in the county town, Jingtu Temple's 1124 coffered ceilings finish the day.
