Arrival, Museum & Waterfall

There is no airport up here — fly to Haikou Meilan, about 230 km and 3 hours by car, or take the HSR to Sanya and drive the 80 km mountain expressway in about 1.5 hours. The museum downtown covers Li and Miao culture; Taiping waterfall, 6 km out, runs fullest after summer rains.

Day 2

Shuiman Rainforest & Li Culture Park

Shuiman township, 24 km and about 40 minutes uphill, sits several hundred meters above the coast and runs cool at night. The rainforest ticket is about 50 yuan with 2-3 hours of boardwalks; the Li Dong culture park with its ancestral hall stands near the township.

Day 3

Red Canyon Rafting

Go for the first launch of the day — the Red Canyon course runs about 4 km, roughly 200 yuan with gear and shuttle, an hour and a half on the water. Bookings peak on weekends; drifts often pause after heavy rain between June and October.

Yahu Terraces & Chubao Village

North to Maoyang township, about 40 minutes — the Yahu terraces flood mirror-bright in May and June and turn gold before the October harvest. Chubao village nearby keeps rows of boat-shaped thatched houses, a protected Li settlement; modest village lanes, wear walking shoes.

Culture Day & Departure

Slow morning at March Third Square downtown — named for the Li-Miao festival of the third lunar month — and the brocade workshops nearby where weavers still work backstraps. Then the drive out, 1.5 hours to Sanya, about 3 to Haikou.
