Day 1

Huguangyan & Xiashan

Morning at the maar lake — about 150,000 years old, 2.3 square kilometres of water, inside the Leiqiong UNESCO Global Geopark listed in 2006. Afternoon in Xiashan for the seafront and the Gothic Victor church of 1903.

Day 2

Chikan & the city's founding story

The Guangzhouwan lease ran from 1899 to 1945, and Chikan's arcade blocks around the old chamber of commerce still carry it. Cunjin Bridge park commemorates the 1898 local resistance; Zhanjiang's port itself opened in 1956 as the new republic's first self-built deepwater harbour.

Day 3

Donghai Island — Longhaitian

Across the bridge to the 286-square-kilometre island, Guangdong's largest, for Longhaitian's 28-kilometre run of firm sand — walk a stretch, swim, and eat seafood in the port village. Sleep on the island or back in town.

Day 4

Naozhou Island

A ferry day to the volcanic island: the lighthouse built by the French in 1899, 23 metres tall with its crystal lens still working, plus the columned lava shore at Nayanhai. Return to the city for the night.

Day 5

Leizhou & departure

South to Leizhou city — West Lake's Shixian shrine honours ten Song-dynasty statesmen exiled here, and the Leizu Temple (642) venerates the peninsula's first governor. Back to Zhanjiang for the HSR or a flight.
