Yes. The Bamboo Sea is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Sichuan. The Yangtze Confluence is a unique geographic experience. The Wuliangye distillery is one of the world's great baijiu heritage sites. Budget 2-3 days.
Two full days covers the essentials: Day 1 for the Bamboo Sea (full morning, 4-5 hours) and the Wuliangye Distillery in the afternoon. Day 2 for the Yangtze Confluence, the old city walk, and Lizhuang Ancient Town (20 km northeast, 2-3 hours). Add a third day for Wulong Mountain and the five-color tea.
March-May for bamboo shoots and warm weather. October- November for autumn colors in the Bamboo Sea and the start of the five-color tea harvest. November-December for the camellia bloom in Fenghuang County.
Yes, at most businesses. Carry ¥300-500 cash for the Bamboo Sea and rural areas.
One of the largest bamboo forests in Asia — 120 km² of towering bamboo covering the hills south of Yibin. The experience is almost otherworldly: green columns of bamboo as far as you can see, the hollow sound of bamboo in the wind, lakes and waterfalls within the forest, and a bamboo suspension bridge. Most atmospheric early morning (before 09:00) when mist fills the valleys.
One of the world's largest baijiu distilleries, producing Wuliangye — a "light aroma" (轻型) baijiu made with five grains. The standard tour (¥60, 1.5 hours) includes the museum and fermentation area. The premium tasting tour (¥150, 2.5 hours) adds the aging cellars and a multi-expression tasting. Wuliangye is the baijiu of choice at formal Chinese banquets. Children are not permitted.
Allow at least 3 days for the highlights. 4–5 days lets you add nearby sites and a day trip. A week lets you see everything at a relaxed pace.
Golden Week (October 1–7) — domestic tourists travel en masse. Also avoid Spring Festival (late Jan/Feb) and Labor Day (May 1–5). Summer (July–August) is hot, humid, and crowded.
