An honest neighboring-city day — Dongting Lake, China's second-largest freshwater lake, with its ticketed tower about half an hour north by HSR; morning out, evening back.

Nothing booked — laundry, cafés, slow noodles. If the legs still want more, this is the natural slot for a rail day toward Xiangtan and the Shaoshan direction, about 20 minutes south by HSR — transport and returns are the only planning it needs.
