7 Days in Heihe

The Amur runs about 750 metres wide here, with Blagoveshchensk straight across; Daheihe Island's trade market and Central Street's Russian-goods shops close the evening.

About 30 km southeast, the museum stands on the bank where the Treaty of Aigun was signed on May 28, 1858, and documents the river's border history from the Qing garrison seat established in 1683.

Roughly half an hour inland, the Jinhe canyon's forested gorge walkways fill a morning; the China-Russia culture park back toward town rounds out the afternoon.

The road bridge across the Amur, opened in June 2022 at roughly 2 km long, is the first road crossing on this stretch; the viewing area, the market and Russian-style cafes fill a slow day.

An honest annotation — the volcano field sits inside Heihe prefecture but about 250 km south, three to four hours by road; overnight in the scenic-area town at the foot of the cones.

Fourteen volcanoes crown the lava plain; the last eruptions ran 1719-1721, and the mineral springs have drawn drinkers since the Qing. Inscribed among UNESCO Global Geoparks in 2004. Return to Heihe by evening.

A crossing to Blagoveshchensk — about 750 metres of water, ten minutes by seasonal ferry or the 2022 bridge — needs passport and Russian visa, arranged ahead. Without documents, a market morning and the flight or rail south close the trip.
