Huangshan — Up by the East Steps

Cable car up the Yungu side to the Beihai terraces; Guangmingding reads 1,860 meters, the highest point you can reach on foot is Lianhua at 1,864.8 meters when open. Sleep in a summit hotel.

Both villages were inscribed together in 2000. Hongcun's Moon Pond mirrors the 1855 Chengzhi Hall; Xidi lies about 20 km west under its 1578 memorial arch — two plaster-and-timber worlds in one day.

Shexian Old City & Departure

The old prefecture seat keeps the eight-legged stone arch of 1584 and the river weir below town; leave from Shexian North on the Hangzhou HSR line opened in 2018.
