Hailar Arrival

Land at Dongshan airport, 12 km from downtown (20 minutes by taxi), or overnight by train from Harbin. Genghis Khan Square and the regional museum set the scene; arrange a charter car here — expect roughly 600-800 yuan a day for a sedan in high season.

Day 2

Mergel Camps & Ergun Wetland

Jinzhanghan lies 38 km north; ride out to the Mergel bends in the morning light, then push about 130 km to Ergun for the wetland overlook at sunset. Overnight in Ergun city below the lookout.

Day 3

Birch Corridor & Enhe

The white-birch park sits about 40 km north of Ergun — an hour of boardwalks — then some 50 km more to Enhe for log-cottage homestays and Russian-descendant bakeries turning out leba bread.

Day 4

Shiwei & Linjiang on the Argun

Enhe to Shiwei is about 70 km; take the 30-minute border-river boat facing the Russian bank, and catch sunset in Linjiang hamlet, some 10 km along the river. Rooms are simple — book a night or two ahead in July and August.

Day 5

Reindeer Camp & the Long Road Home

Leave early — Shiwei to Genhe runs about 200 km by way of Moerdaoga, and the Evenki camp some 4 km from Genhe deserves two hours of moss feeding. The last 250 km back to Hailar takes about 3 hours; the whole day is 6-7 hours behind the wheel.
