Dongshan airport is 12 km from downtown. Square, museum, riverside evening — and book the charter car for the week here; a sedan with driver runs about 600-800 yuan a day in season, an SUV 900 or more.

Mergel Camps & Ergun Wetland

Ride the Mergel bends at Jinzhanghan (38 km north) before the tour buses, lunch on hand-pulled mutton, then 130 km up to Ergun for the wetland overlook at sunset.

Birch Corridor & Enhe

The birch park about 40 km north of Ergun takes an hour of boardwalks; 50 km on, Enhe's log cottages and Russian-descendant bakeries make the easiest overnight on the whole line.

Shiwei & Over the Hills to Moerdaoga

Spend the morning in Shiwei and the riverside hamlet of Linjiang, 10 km along the Argun; then it is about 80 km over Taiping village and Eagle Beak to Moerdaoga town. Cabins here sell out in July and August.

The park road runs nearly 100 km deep toward Bailu Island — take the scenic train for the tall-larch sections and start by nine. Mid-September turns the valleys amber; July gives 18-degree mornings.

Reindeer Camp & Back to Hailar

About two hours southeast to Genhe; the Evenki camp 4 km from town gives you moss feeding with the herds, then it is 250 km down to Hailar for the night.

Hulun Lake & Manzhouli Finale

Leave Hailar by eight for the 200 km run west, stop at the Xiaohekou shore of Hulun Lake, and reach Manzhouli for a late lunch. The 43-meter national gate needs your passport; the matryoshka square (about 100 yuan in high season) glows after dark. Return by the roughly 3-hour train or fly out of Manzhouli.
