A 10-to-15-minute ferry from Zhujiajian's Wugongzhi wharf; Puji Temple, first recorded in 1080, uses a 5-yuan incense ticket, and the 33-m statue of 1997 watches over the southern cliffs.

Fayu and Huiji

Fayu dates to 1580; the Xiangyun stairway beside it climbs 1,088 steps to Huiji on 291-m Foding Mountain - or ride the cable car. Both temples post their 5-yuan incense tickets at the gate.

Luojiashan Boat Day

A separate island about 30 minutes away by the short-line boat; boats run on a fixed schedule and sell out on the big incense days (the 19th of the 2nd, 6th and 9th lunar months), so go early.

Zhujiajian Beaches

Zhujiajian is bridge-linked to the Zhoushan mainland; from Wugongzhi wharf it is a short ride to the Nansha sand-sculpture grounds (the festival began in 1999) and the green headlands of Daqingshan park.

Zizhulin, Beach and Departure

The Tang-era Guanyin story at Zizhulin, one last walk on Baibusha, and the ferry back to the wharf for buses toward Ningbo - about two hours across the 2009 bridge chain.
