Temple of Confucius & Kong Family Mansion
Founded in 478 BCE, a year after Confucius died, the temple grew into nine courtyards with more than 460 rooms; Dacheng Hall rises 24.8 m on 28 carved stone columns, the front ten with dragons. The adjoining mansion kept the Kong heirs — dukes by title from 1055 — across 463 rooms.

Cemetery of Confucius & Confucius Museum
The family cemetery has taken burials for about 2,500 years behind roughly 7 km of earth walls with 100,000-odd graves; disciples mourned Confucius here for three years, Zigong for six. The museum (opened 2019) shows some 700,000 items.

Nishan Sacred Land
A modern cultural park (opened 2018) about 25 km southeast at Confucius's traditional birthplace; the 72 m bronze statue and the Academy hall set the scale. In town, the annual commemoration rite falls on 28 September.

Yan Temple & the Old City
The Ming-scale temple honors Yan Hui, the disciple the Analects remember for contentment on a bowl of rice; then the Ming old-city gate towers and drum-tower lanes at an unhurried pace.

Zoucheng — Mencius Temples (Jining day)
About 20 km south in Jining prefecture, Mencius's home county keeps his temple — first raised in 1037 — and the Yasheng mansion; the pairing with Qufu forms the classical Confucius-Mencius axis. HSR or car, under an hour.

Mount Tai (Tai'an day)
An honest neighbor day, about an hour north by HSR to Tai'an — Jade Emperor Peak stands 1,545 m, and the mountain joined UNESCO's list in 1987 as China's first mixed cultural-natural site. Cableway up, stone steps down as legs allow.

Yi Mountain (Zoucheng)
A maze of granite boulders southeast of Zoucheng, 582.8 m at its top; Qin Shihuang had a stele carved here in 219 BCE. Stone paths thread the boulder field — steady shoes, half a day.

Wu Family Shrines (Jiaxiang day)
An honest Jining day, about an hour and a half west by car — Han-dynasty stone chamber shrines with carvings from around 147 CE whose relays of figures and inscriptions fed scholars' image of antiquity for centuries.

Weishan Lake (Jining day)
The lake spreads over roughly 1,266 km² along the old Grand Canal line; lotus season runs July-August and fishing villages work the shallows. Boats leave from the town piers — an unhurried water day.

Jining — Taibai Tower
An honest Jining day in the prefecture city: the tower tied to Tang poet Li Bai, who lived in these canal quarters from 736 for about 20 years, plus the old canal-side lanes. Back to Qufu by evening.

Cemetery & Museum, second pass
Revisit at leisure — hire the electric cart through the cemetery's northern paths you skipped, and take the museum galleries in reverse order; a second pass reads differently.

A second, quieter Nishan morning before tour buses (arrive by 09:00), then lantern hour along the old-city walls.
