Guide County belongs to Hainan Prefecture, about 90 km and 1.5 hours south over the Laji pass — the Yellow River runs famously clear here, and the geopark's banded cliffs make an easy half day. Return to Xining for the night.

Erlangjian sits about 150 km away in Gonghe County, Hainan Prefecture — Qinghai Province, not Xining city — roughly 2.5 hours by car. The lake lies at 3,196 m; seasonal entry 90 yuan, lakeside rapeseed in July-August. Overnight in Gonghe county town or lakeside.

Chaka belongs to Ulan County, Haixi Prefecture — about 300 km or four hours west — at roughly 3,100 m. Entry 60 yuan plus 50 yuan one-way on the little train; go on a windless day for mirror shots, and expect a late return to Xining.
