Kumbum Monastery and Tower Night

Kumbum Monastery lies 25 km southwest in Huangzhong, about 40 minutes out — entry 70 yuan, allow 2-3 hours, dress below the knee, no photos inside the halls, walk clockwise. Evening on the 188-m Plateau Pearl tower.

Day 3

Qinghai Lake — Erlangjian Day

Erlangjian sits about 150 km away in Gonghe County, Hainan Prefecture — Qinghai Province, not Xining city — roughly 2.5 hours by car. The lake lies at 3,196 m; seasonal entry 90 yuan and lakeside rapeseed in July-August.

Chaka Salt Lake — Long Day West

Chaka belongs to Ulan County, Haixi Prefecture — about 300 km or four hours west — at roughly 3,100 m. Entry 60 yuan plus 50 yuan one-way on the little train; go on a windless day for mirror shots, and expect a late return to Xining.

Menyuan Flower Sea and Departure

The high-speed train reaches Menyuan County in Haibei Prefecture in about 40 minutes; the flower-sea viewing deck charges 60 yuan in bloom, early July to early August. Back to Xining station for the evening departure.
