Qinghai Lake (Kokonor in Mongolian, "Blue Lake") is China's largest lake at 4,500 km² — roughly the size of Rhode Island. What to expect
Qinghai Lake is a high-altitude inland sea — turquoise water stretching to the horizon, surrounded by grasslands where Tibetan nomads graze yaks. In July, the rapeseed fields along the southern shore bloom in brilliant yellow, creating the iconic contrast of gold, turquoise, and snow peaks. The lake is sacred to Tibetans and Mongolians.
