Day 1

The Gansu half — Sertri

The town sits at about 3,300 m and splits at the White Dragon River — north bank Gansu (Luqu county), south bank Sichuan (Ruoergai county). The Gansu-side Sertri monastery dates to 1748; entry around CNY 30. The hillside sky-burial site above it is an active place of worship — view from a distance, keep quiet, never photograph.

Day 2

The Sichuan half — Kirti & the gorge

Records trace Kirti, across the river, to 1413; walk the halls, then take the gorge trail behind the monastery — 1-2 hours each way through the Namo Gorge to the cave springs where the White Dragon River rises, gaining a couple of hundred metres. Walk clockwise, ask before photographing inside halls.

Day 3

The bridge & Gahai Lake

Cross the small river bridge that marks the provincial line — both banks in ten minutes. Then 40 km north on the G213, Gahai Lake sits at about 3,480 m inside a bird reserve (summer brings black-necked cranes and gulls). Buses north to Hezuo (about 150 km) or Lanzhou (roughly 390 km, 6-7 hours) leave from the town.
