Splendid China & Chinese Folk Culture Village sits in the Overseas Chinese Town district of Nanshan, Shenzhen — one of the city's most famous theme parks, run by the OCT group alongside Window of the World and Happy Valley. It has two halves: Splendid China, where China's celebrated sights appear in miniature, and the Folk Culture Village, home to 25 ethnic minority villages with their architecture and performances. In a single day you can travel all of China — no better introduction to the country's cultural diversity.

Splendid China Folk Village lies in the Overseas Chinese Town area of Nanshan District and ranks among Shenzhen's best-loved theme parks. It divides into two parts. Splendid China recreates more than 80 of China's famous sights — the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Potala Palace, Mount Tai, the Yellow Mountains, the Three Gorges, the Guilin hills — as 1:15 scale models you can tour in a few hours. The Folk Culture Village builds 25 ethnic minority villages at full scale — Miao, Dong, Yao, Dai, Tibetan, Mongol and more — each with characteristic architecture and live performances that introduce each people's customs, dress and food.
The miniatures are exquisitely made — some finer than their originals, down to the glazed tiles on the Forbidden City and individual bricks on the Great Wall. The village performances are a highlight: Miao lusheng dances, Dong grand songs, the Dai water-splashing festival, the Tibetan Shoton festival — performed by members of each ethnic group, danced and sung true to tradition. Evenings bring a large-scale show and a float parade with striking lighting. Several small rides and a children's play area round it out for families.
Practical notes: check the day's performance schedule ahead and plan your viewing order. The park is big — grab a map at the gate, plot a route and wear comfortable shoes. Restaurants and snack stands are plentiful but pricier than outside. Splendid China sits close to Happy Valley and Window of the World; consider combo tickets or separate visits.
Shenzhen Metro Line 1 or 2 to Overseas Chinese Town Station, Exit D, then about a 5-minute walk. Buses 79, 101 or 113 stop at the Splendid China ① stop. From Shenzhen North Station, take Line 4 to Convention & Exhibition Center and transfer to Line 1 — about 40 minutes.
They are one park with two themes: Splendid China is the miniature scenic area, the Folk Culture Village the ethnic minority villages. You can buy separate or combo tickets.
Plan on 6-8 hours. Between the sights and the shows, doing it justice takes a whole day.
Both belong to the OCT group and sit near each other, but the styles differ: Window of the World miniaturizes global landmarks, Splendid China does China's, plus folk culture.
Very — ethnic performances, miniatures and play areas suit young and old alike.
