Window of the World, in the Overseas Chinese Town area of Nanshan District, opened in 1994 and remains one of Shenzhen's most famous theme parks. Built around the idea of celebrating world culture, it shrinks the globe's celebrated monuments, architectural wonders and natural sights into models, letting visitors circle the world in a day. Eight themed zones hold more than 130 sights, among them Egypt's pyramids, the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the Taj Mahal.

What to expect

Window of the World sits in the Overseas Chinese Town of Nanshan District, Shenzhen, a sister park to Splendid China Folk Village and Happy Valley under the OCT Group. Opened in 1994 on roughly 480,000 sq m, it is an all-in-one park of miniature landmarks, live shows and rides. Replicas built at scales from 1:1 down to 1:15 let you tour the world in a day: the pyramids of Egypt, the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Roman Colosseum, the White House, the Sydney Opera House, Mount Fuji, Angkor Wat, the Taj Mahal and more.

The park divides into eight themed zones — Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa, Oceania and beyond — each pairing representative architecture with shows from that part of the world. Evenings bring large-scale stage galas and fireworks (on holidays and selected dates), and thrill rides such as a roller coaster and drop tower cater to all ages. Recurring annual events — a Halloween haunted house, a Christmas carnival — pull big local and visiting crowds.

Check the day's show schedule first and plan around it. The park is vast, so grab a map at the gate and plot a route, and wear comfortable shoes. Restaurants and snack stands inside run two to three times street prices, so modest outside food and water are allowed (bottles under 600 ml). Holiday crowds are enormous — buy tickets in advance.

How to get there

Shenzhen Metro Line 1 or 2 to Window of the World station Exit J, then about a 5-minute walk. Buses 21, 26, 70, 101 and 113, among others, stop at Window of the World. From Shenzhen North station, take Line 4 to Convention & Exhibition Center and transfer to Line 1 — about 40 minutes.

Best photo spots

  • The Eiffel Tower (the park's icon)
  • The pyramid cluster
  • The Arc de Triomphe
  • Fireworks on holiday evenings
  • The Sydney Opera House

Tips

  • Buy ahead via the official app or e-commerce platforms — holiday sessions can sell out
  • Wear comfortable shoes; the park is huge and demands serious walking
  • Parking is pricey and scarce — take the metro instead
  • Food inside runs high; bring a limited amount of your own
  • The evening fireworks are the headliner — plan to have dinner in the park and stay for them

Scams to avoid

  • Scalpers near the gate sell fakes or marked-up tickets — buy through official channels
  • Unlicensed vendors can be pushy; ignore them
