Heavenly Lake of Tianshan (天山天池, Tiānshān Tiānchí)
Heavenly Lake (Tianchi) is a crescent of turquoise glacial water hemmed in by spruce forest and the snow wall of the Bogda massif, the highest range in the eastern Tianshan. It is the single best natural site reachable from Urumqi and the reason many travelers route through Xinjiang at all. What to expect
Heavenly Lake is a moraine-dammed lake — glacial rubble piled across a valley, backing up meltwater — sitting at 1,980 m on the northern slope of the Bogda massif.
