Hubu Alley is Wuhan's 400-year-old breakfast street — a 150-meter lane by the Yangtze where the city's 'guozao' (breakfast) culture concentrates: hot dry noodles (re gan mian), doupi, fried dumplings, soup dumplings and rice-wine, eaten standing or walking.

'Guozao' — Wuhan dialect for having breakfast — is a verb here, and Hubu Alley is its temple. The lane packs dozens of stalls: sesame-pasted re gan mian tossed to order, pan-fried doupi with glutinous rice and egg skin, soup dumplings, fried dough sticks and sweet rice wine.
The alley sits between the Yellow Crane Tower and the Yangtze waterfront, so the natural loop is: breakfast in the alley, climb the tower, then walk the riverside. Come hungry and graze — no single stall is a meal.
Metro Line 4 to Shouyi Square, then a 10-minute walk toward the Yangtze; the alley sits just south of the Yellow Crane Tower.
Re gan mian (hot dry noodles) and doupi are the two essentials; follow with soup dumplings and a cup of rice wine.
Early morning — 7:00 to 9:00 — when the breakfast crowd makes it liveliest and food is freshest.
