If you only have time for one private museum in Shanghai, this is it. The Liu/Wang collection gives a clear visual arc of 20th-century Chinese art — Republican-era oil paintings, propaganda posters, and the Red Flag Canal — that you will not see grouped this way anywhere else, alongside the original building's industrial shell which is the real attraction architecturally. Skip it if you have zero interest in 20th-century Chinese realism; it is not a global contemporary art venue like West Bund.
